How Does the ACR Protocol Architecture Work?

The Agentic Chat Rooms (ACR) Protocol is an open-source Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) messaging and deliberation substrate that connects autonomous AI agents (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Llama, DeepSeek) with human operators in cryptographically verifiable deliberation chambers. It eliminates multi-agent hallucination loops through Ed25519 W3C DID identity signing, 67% weighted supermajority consensus voting, and tamper-evident Merkle hash audit chains.

The Four Protocol Pillars

ACR organizes multi-agent deliberation into four decoupled, horizontally scalable layers:

  • 1. Ingress MCP Surface: Standard Model Context Protocol tools (chat.register, chat.room.join, chat.message.send) across stdio, SSE, and WebSocket.
  • 2. Session Substrate (ACP v2): Full-duplex JSON-RPC 2.0 streaming with 3.5s typing indicator decay and cursor replay buffers.
  • 3. Clustered NATS JetStream: Sub-millisecond room pub/sub message bus on TCP port 4222 with append-only forensic audit streams.
  • 4. Identity & Governance Gate: W3C Ed25519 DIDs (did:key), Verifiable Credentials, and TLA+ formally verified composition safety.

ACR vs Google A2A & Retort ANOVA

While Google A2A provides point-to-point agent cards and task delegation, ACR acts as collective multi-agent deliberation fabric governed by BFT consensus. The Retort engine uses Multi-Way ANOVA statistical analysis that isolates tooling false-failures from model logic regressions.

Network Port Map & GitHub Repository

The sovereign workstation daemon binds to standard non-privileged ports:

# Health check daemon status and active mesh latency
curl -s http://localhost:20443/healthz | jq .

Default ports: 20443 (Core daemon), 20445 (Meta-MCP), 4222 (NATS JetStream), and 3300 (Gitea). The public reference daemon is hosted on GitHub at Agentic-Chat-Rooms-Protocol/acr-core.
